Westeros is back! The Dragon House arrived on Sunday (21) and promises a lot of fights, confusion and gossip. Check out!

I confess, I was curious about The Dragon House. And I confess even more, I expected the first episode to be something that made me laugh, or in denial, but the experience was the opposite. 462l

the last season of Game of Thrones it was remarkable, it showed me how a series can have an audience, even if it is terrible. Source of several traumas and discussions about the need to know when to stop, the show became a joke in my life.

And if you've watched the same show as me for over 5 years, you know that a lot of the final arcs were simply horrible.

This was one of the reasons why I always waited for the adaptation of fire and blood, base book of the series the Dragon House, which aired last Sunday (21) on the platforms of HBO. Not because I like the family Targaryen — on the contrary, I always disliked everyone, but because I wanted to watch something other than Jon Snow e Daenerys

With several doubts, which I think are the same as those of GoT fans with common sense, I watched the episode. As I watched, I thought: Will the show redeem the final season? There will be a character without grace, but beloved by the public just like the Jon Snow? Will CGI compensate for the script?

And the answer is what we'll check out today, together. Keep reading!

A summary of the first episode 2p37j

For those of you who don't the first episode, we'll do a brief summary of The Dragon House

The opening episode opens with important information: viserys (Paddy Considine) only became king because the previous king did not have male children in the line of succession. Thus, the king's nephew took possession of the throne and became the rightful king. This succession rule is strictly followed in Westeros and always respected in the world of Game of Thrones, being discarded only when the male child is bastard.

Knowing this information, the story progresses a lot until it reaches viserys, now an old gentleman, with a daughter, the princess rhaenira (Milly Alcock) and his pregnant wife. This pregnancy is risky, as the queen herself suggests that it be her last - considering that in that time her children died or were stillborn.

The king is concerned about that, but not about the woman herself. This because viserys know: if he does not have a son, who will succeed his position as king will be Daemon (Matt Smith), his younger brother. And now you ask me: why Daemon can not take the throne?

It's not an opinion, but I believe that Daemon not be very trusted or liked in the world of The Dragon House. During the council, the hand of the king, Otto High Tower (Rhys Ifans) - which we will comment on - tells all the reasons why the king's brother cannot assume a position of power. At that same moment, we discovered that Daemon, without being able to perform any other function and being one of the best knights, founded The Golden Cloaks — the patrol of royal city

Oh yes, this discussion happens because Daemon, together with his army, marches on the royal city, capturing all the criminals he finds. Carrying out a real massacre, Daemon bestows instant punishment on fugitives from the law, cutting off their limbs, with beheadings and all the torture you can imagine. The scene is filled with unnecessary violence, following a pattern GoT quality.

Confusion comes, confusion goes, and the King viserys decides that there will be a tournament on the day of his wife's labor. On that day, indeed, the queen begins childbirth, but it is fraught with complications. O grand maester, responsible for her, recognizes the risk of birth and warns the King: either he will have to save one, or sacrifice both.

Making the decision to keep your child alive, the King Viserys asks the maester by the birthing procedure. I also don't need to say how the scene is full of violence, distress and makes viserys closer to another character with the same name, no?

Of course, both mother and child die, but the show is careful to mention death in a delicate way. When the queen's body appears wrapped in robes for her funeral at the dragon's feet, and after her son, the series changes, being more attentive to the death of the dragon. Targaryen than everyone else.

And to complicate the grieving situation, viserys find out that your brother Daemon is giving work, facing lords and worst of all: causing abuses of power. The main discussion is motivated, again, by Otto High Tower, for the prince decided that it would be better to celebrate in a “House of pleasure” your life, than holding your brother's lap. This is reflected in some discussions in front of the council and every washing of the family's dirty laundry.

Another important scene is also when Otto, which is causing arguments between the brothers, asks his daughter to Alicent (Olivia Cooke) visit the king. It's interesting to see how Alicent, friend of the princess at the beginning of the episode, is changing her position, getting closer to the king and farther from her friend.

No heir and no wife, viserys you see yourself with a single option. In the midst of despair and afflictions, he resolves to crown his only daughter, rhaenira, as future queen. In this measure of crowning the daughter, viserys serves the easter egg most anticipated by the fans and that was honestly a nuisance to me. The king confesses to his daughter about the song of Ice and Fire, which will be the salvation of men during the winter.

The final scene of the episode is with rhaenira, crowned and recognized before the king and lords of the Seven Kingdoms. It is notable that some lords do not agree with the choice, after all, it is the woman's bloodline and that counts for nothing. We can see, in these scenes, ancestors like the Stark e Baratheon being forced by viserys to accept rhaenira.

do you need fan service?  2n3b38

Game of Thrones has always been known for scenes made to please the majority of the audience, without maintaining cohesion. For me, the most classic example of a scene made to please the audience was the hasty recognition of Jon Snow as the legitimate son of Rhaegar and Lyanna.

The strict laws of Westeros are part of the fun of the first seasons, but in the end, the fun of the producers was to abuse the scenes of fanservice. And this flexibilization of rules and laws for the good of a part of the public - that lazy part, it's too tiring. It's disheartening to see a story with such a well-constructed political scene thrown away like this.

Right now, my biggest fear is that The Dragon House go to the same path. I don't want to see an original show, with so much potential, be thrown away to please the audience with lazy and pointless decisions.

When the scene happened, yes, the scene of The Song of Ice and Fire, I was already a little uncomfortable, watching carefully and thinking about the plot main Dance of the Dragons, trying to understand what will be important about the prophecy. At first, I didn't find a link other than the need to link the two shows together.

Fitting a story over 100 years ago with a tiny part of GoT is to say that The Dragon House it does not itself, and will have to live off the crumbs offered to the public. The same happens when rhaenira says "dracarys". It sounds cool, but the reference repetition is synonymous with an empty series, with no content of its own.

These features are harmless for the time being, but if they become common, they will hamper development. I want The Dragon House whatever they sold me: a spin off of Game of Thrones, with a new story, with new characters. I don't want the representation or mention of themes, or characters that I can't take anymore (and yes, I'm talking about the Jon Snow).

More dragon, more fun 6k6z1t

The season's top promise is the Dance of Dragons, Civil War of the Targaryen. I want scenes and constructions about how the battles for the crown ended the dragons and, consequently, the power of the family.

The first episode showed little dragon. At the beginning we have some flight scenes from rhaenira and your dragon. In the course of the episode, another scene at his mother's funeral. But, being an intro episode, what I expected was at least 3 dragons.

Part of introducing a magical world is showing its potential, creature scenes and interactions — showing the difference between the shows. The scarcity of The Dragon House reminded me a lot more of a season of GoT, that a series called The Dragon House.

I really hope that in the next episode there will be more scenes, more dragons and less CGI of ugly fire. Including the fire at the mother's funeral. rhaenira it was ugly. It didn't seem to fit the scene, unfortunately.

HBO, listen to my pleas: more dragons, less sex scenes.

The political quarrels of the Royal City 1o6d1y

Seriously though, my favorite moment in the stories of Game of Thrones it was the political scene. For seasons we follow Littlefinger setting up wars behind the scenes, the unfolding of alliances and betrayals. And the beauty of a new series is the exploration of a new scenario.

Em House of the Dragon, family contexts Targaryen and power are different. It is not a penniless family, on the contrary: they are feared and are the most influential family in all of Westeros. This is presented at various points in the episode and is well placed. when the king viserys appears, people fear him, show respect and fear.

The funny thing is that, even so, they are not immune to the political scheming of other families, gossip and rumors. We were introduced to the family spark Hightower and a possible promise of being the next to overthrow some of the position of rhaenira, but all superficially, without showing too much.

The double agent role is given to two characters: Alicent e Otto. I must already mention that the daughter of Hightower has already partially won me over: her position, close to the princess, with other knights – who supposedly know about the future, and even better the resourcefulness of the blow that the king is subject to, is the highlight of the episode.

Besides dragon, the greatest grace of GoT was in the political game, literally called the “throne game”. There is no fun in a medieval story where the position of the king is so important if there is not the conspiracy of other families, the discussion and gossip, in search of the downfall of those who think they are kings and queens.

friends? But to what instance? Rhaenyra and Alicent together in the first episode (Image: HBO official reproduction)

For now my hope with The Dragon House it's stable. There are some defects in CGI, and some performances that fail at the crucial moment. However, I hope that next Sunday (28) we will have more dragons and more gossip from the political environment.
