One episode, a thousand consequences 1u2n35

Episode 5 of The House of the Dragon: The Nightmare Begins

Last week's episode focused on the princess's adventure of discovery, surrounded by moral questions such as: why can a lord have bastards and lovers, but remain "righteous" in society? In addition, there was the timid beginning of Alicent in the villain role.

That week, the consequences of that libertine night arrived, and most importantly: the definition of roles in the Dances of the Dragons. It was thanks to this slow construction, but well executed, that in this episode we can appreciate something that the producers have always done well: the intrigues maximized.

as promised by King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine), his only child and heir, Rhaenyra Targaryen (Milly Alcock), will marry Laenor Velaryon (John MacMillan), heir to Driftmarks. The problem is that, as in the book, laenor does not go to great lengths to hide his sexual orientation, being openly, as far as an heir can be, gay. That would be a problem marrying the princess, right? Wrong, because instead of being an obligatory marriage, rhaenira perceives, in the engagement, a age to freedom.

The bride and groom believe so much in this plan that laenor take your a to the royal wedding as a guest of honor. The future king consort's plan is to actually make him swear his protection and love to him, keeping the boy close during their marriage. Bearing in mind that this is all proposed by rhaenira. The outcome of this treaty is tragic and shows that, despite rhaenira be full of good intentions, is too irresponsible to govern.

Everything that started as a beautiful dream, has a tragic and sad ending, but first, we will talk about two important points of this episode: Daemon e Alicent.

After all, what's up with Daemon Targaryen? 2b6h5i

Last week, Daemon targaryen asked his brother and king for the hand of his niece. This desire for her niece is a bond that has been cultivated throughout the episodes and the “pleasure house” scene was just a trigger for something that had been kept for years. However, this feeling is ironic on the part of the character and cannot be easily understood.

With the royal exile, the renegade prince returns to the Valley under the guidance of the King Viserys and you must pay attention to your lady, Lady Rhea Royce. For obvious reasons, their marriage is not at all desired — and knowing this, Rhea find Daemon during a hunt and meets its terrible end.

The husband and prince is not worried about the rumors, much less shows fear of what might happen to him when he instigates the death of Rhea. Scaring the horse and leaving the woman paralyzed on the ground, after falling, the prince ends their marital suffering with a stone, without remorse. there are those who say that Daemon did it out of love, but I don't think so. Marriage to his niece would bring him closer to the throne and not motivated by a feeling.

Yes it is, Daemon he will be firm in that position, never showing remorse for killing his wife. After the murder, the Targaryen even returned to Court, sitting at the table next to the new hand of the king, Queen Alicent and maybe the worst: talking to the princess Targaryen at your wedding feast.

Sincerely, congratulations to the production, the writers and the Matt Smith for building one of the most ambiguous and difficult to understand characters in the Seven Kingdoms. After all: what does he want? marry rhaenira independent of the king or even of the lords? I don't believe he is motivated by loving his niece, but by a thirst for power. in the background, Dameon know you would be a better king than the viserys, or so he considers himself.

Alicent Hightower woke up in House of the Dragon 2t4a31

with the resignation of Otto High Tower, is revealed to Alicent High Tower (Emily Carey), current queen, her future role and most importantly: the future of her children. The main conspiracy Otto is justified in maintaining the lives of her grandchildren, even if it is a plan filled with the Lord's ambition. The breakup between father and daughter only exacerbates the argument, but it also shows that the lord was right.

The revolt of Alicent being forced to marry and the anger of Otto knowing that the daughter chose to believe in her friend and not her father. However, before leaving red keep, the father asks the queen if rhaenira will rule in peace if the male heir of viserys is alive. The grandfather's conclusion is simple: the princess will kill the heirs to avoid confrontation and war.

The curious thing is that killing or not, the war is certain, since the Crown Princess is not loved by the Court, nor respected. Her role before the lords is still seen as weak and does not convey credibility. And to make matters worse, killing or not, there will be Dance of the Dragons.

After this conversation, the queen also learns that the princess had an affair with Sir Cole, the royal guard. Repentant and feeling tainted, the knight confesses his night with the princess and demonstrates to the queen how lost he is through feelings of shame and ion. This opening will be used by the Alicent, turning him into a powerful ally.

Thanks to that point, Alicent relinquish your permissiveness. In the scenes we can see less and less of the queen wearing the red dresses, moving to the color of her house, green. When ing the feast, it is said by lesser lords that green is the color of the summons of war.

The betrothal announcement soon became a royal feast, given to the lords by the family. Targaryen. The promise of fun and happy times for the future queen quickly turned to doom.

We have both attendance Daemon, which, after the death of Rhea, adopts a funny and somewhat sad air, as the scene of Alicent summoning, in a sublime way, the lords. Interrupting the royal speech, the queen appears parading with her head held high wearing the color of the Lighthouse, matching the family motto (“We light the way”).

And it's not for less, since Alicent, with her actions, managed to reach the position of player of the match. Setting the perfect traps, knowing that between the princess and her son, he must survive, she is, for me, the highlight of the episode.

It will be with the explosion of Sir Cole, upon being discovered as the princess' lover by the groom's lover, that everything comes crashing down. The scene of violence is significant because, before it happens, rhaenira is seen by the king talking to his uncle very close. The young men start pushing each other as the fight breaks out and we see Sir Cole hitting the young companion Laenor Velaryon

The scene ends in death, but breaks up into many reflections. One of them is that harwin, close to hand of the king, looks for the princess and carries her on his lap — showing a little bit of the characters' future, being close. Another is that the two children of the family Velaryon are pushed through the large crowd, away from safety. So much laenor as laena, the youngest daughter presented to the king, are taken away from their parents, thrown to the back of the hall.

Throughout the episode it is shown openly that the king is dying, and no longer in secret. The whole kingdom knows the truth and is afraid: rhaenira would you be a good queen? Bets tend to believe not, but it is the promise of male heir children (the right ones, according to the characters) that keeps the public's hope.

If in the first episode we had the beginning of a dream, now we have the confirmation of nightmares. At end, rhaenira secretly marries laenor before the great septon. In the final scene, we also see that Sir Cole is prevented by Alicent, who recruits him to his force, being another ally of the queen in the future war.

What can we expect from the next episode? we don't know but Alicent is ready to defend her children and most importantly: to put an end to Rhaneyra

the next episode of The Dragon House will be available on Sunday (25), at 22 pm on HBO channels or on the streaming HBO Max.
