O Tidal was created by a Swedish public company called Aspiro, but it only gained attention when Spotify and brings as a differential the of several artists, in addition to the high quality broadcast. I tested Tidal in the last few weeks and here are my impressions. 353a46
FLAC 2e2q3t
To stream the songs in that transform, Tidal uses the format FLAC, well known to audiophiles as the best choice over MP3. The acronym FLAC, in free translation, stands for Lossless Free Audio Codec. Its proposal is to compress a file without losing any data. In practice, it means that the audio files in this format have practically the same quality as the original made by the record company, but in a considerably smaller size.
MP3 can compress files even further, but ends up leaving data along the way. Formats such as OGG, used by Spotify, manage to compress data that can be considered “unnoticeable”.
This ends up reflecting file size Final. A conventional CD track can reach 70MB, while FLAC reaches 30MB and MP3 at 320kbps reaches 5MB. For Tidal, this means longer s, but we'll get into those details later.
Catalog and Navigation 3d6h3x
O Tidal claims to have 30 million songs in your catalogue. Furthermore, 75 thousand videos are available on the platform. It's an interesting number and covers most of the established artists, but for those following the less popular scene, you may find some holes.
O national heritage turned out to be very complete. I could find the work of Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso, Rita Lee, Gal Costa and even those not so well known, such as Baia, Castello Branco, Móveis Coloniais de Acajú and Apanhador Só. However, some big disappointments: I found only one album by the band 5 a Seco and only one EP by the rapper Criolo.
The catalog of Tidal it can be quite complete for many. But you can let others down.
There are two areas dedicated to the discovery of new artists. O Tidal Rising and Tidal Discover. Through these sections, it is possible to see which artists have gained audience quickly and which were found by the app's curatorship, respectively. I did interesting discoveries over there.
There is the section "News" where they display the latest releases and “Playlists” that are created by the Tidal. Playlists that are a strong point of the Spotify, but Jay-Z's service has shown to have a very interesting curation with lists for all tastes. There is still a little bit left to reach the competitor's diversity, but it is certainly a matter of time.
You can tag playlists, songs, albums and artists as favorites, just click on the star that appears next to them. All this is gathered in the section "My songs". At first, I was a little confused by the system, which separates things. Let me explain: if you mark an album as a favorite, the songs and artist don't go automatically; you need to bookmark them separately.
Like other services, the Tidal offers an option to radio. If you want to listen to similar artists or music, just enable the option. It's a great way to discover new music.
Socials 6g1v3m
Tidal is not a very sociable app. It allows you to connect to the Facebook e Twitter to share the songs with your friends, in addition to connecting to the Last.fmwhat does scrobble tracks automatically. You can copy the specific link of an album, playlist or track to send it to someone. And that's all.
contrary to Spotify, there are no options to follow your friends and browse their created playlists. The service also doesn't notify you of new releases from your favorite artists; in the competitor, just “Follow” the musician to receive updates.
On the other hand, all artists have a tab called "Social", where you can follow the latest posts on social networks.
Apps 15250
Streaming applications have a very similar skeleton and it was no different with Tidal, but there is no denying that the predominant color choice reminds us of the market leader. At launch, the Spotify even provoked the new competitor pointing out these similarities.
Tidal has a web player optimized for the Chrome, other browsers do not full streaming quality. There are apps for PC, Mac, Android and iOS. If you are a Windows Phone , don't count on the service. It is also compatible with a number of platforms, you can check the full list through this link.
On all platforms, the application proved to be almost competent. I read reports of constant crash in mobile apps, although the problem still happens, it is less frequent. Some things still need to be polished, in the desktop app, for example, even with the language selected for Portuguese, it displays a series of elements in Spanish and others in English.
Performance 58a2u
Streaming high quality audio means consume more data. For cell phones with less space, it will be a problem to enjoy the maximum quality of music. The service also offers the option of compressed files to solve any lack of space. Tracks can take a long time to and this also applies to "Buffering" online.
It's not hard to put a song on and have to wait a few seconds for it to finally start. The problem is more common on the first track of an album and when you're skipping songs in sequence. There were occasions, even with broadband connection, that songs crashed in the middle of execution.
Price 4t2ce
The service has not yet been made available on the Brazil, but we already have ideas of prices and they are not absurd. Unlike Spotify, there is no free plan, however, you can try it for 30 days free of charge. The monthly fees will be R$14,90 to the plan, which offers audio quality equal to competitors, and R$29,80 for the HiFi plan, which guarantees sound lossless, high-quality.
Family plans were recently added, which give 50% off for each extra bill.
In both plans, videos and content curation are available.
Worth it? 3g3a2x
O Tidal has a very specific target audience: people in love with music, who are willing to spend money on headphones and professional equipment. It is possible to identify the difference in quality in the songs even with conventional headphones, those that come with the smartphone, but it does not reach the point of making it worth paying almost R$ 30 per month. The 75 thousand videos sold as a differential does not make the eyes shine, since the YouTube it's right there.
The plan of almost R$ 15 should not attract as much, it is the same value of the monthly fee of Spotify, which has a more extensive catalog and more optimized applications, both on desktops and smartphones.
Even so, I recommend the trial period of 30 days. Experiencing audio quality is a cool experience and can be the perfect excuse to start investing in your ion for music.
