The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) developed 11 apps for voters to participate more actively in elections (no selfie app was created in the voting booth).
The apps for Android and iOS range from reporting apps, consulting the candidate file, to the electoral calendar of the chosen municipality. This initiative seeks to bring the TSE and voters closer, computerizing and simplifying processes.
“Since the process became computerized, 20 years ago, the Electoral Justice’s commitment is precisely to use the resources and functionalities that technology provides and to evolve the electoral process at the same speed that technology evolves”, says TSE Information Technology Secretary Giuseppe Janino.
Among the 11 apps developed, one of the main ones is “Sparrow – Electoral Denouncements”, which allows the sending of complaints with indications of improper or illegal practices. Exit, use of the public machine, purchase of votes, among other irregularities can be reported in the app, with the right to send photos, videos and audio.
Despite the good intentions, he seems to follow the pattern of our country's politics. A lot of people have reported that the app doesn't work, and in my tests I've seen it stop working a few times.
Even with the difficulties, in three weeks, the application has already received more than 25 thousand records of irregularities from all over the country. Janino estimates that the number of complaints should increase with the proximity of the elections.
Another application that promises to be useful in these elections is Bulletin in Hand, which allows, at the end of the voting, to know the votes deposited in a specific electronic ballot box. At the end of the election, each ballot box counts the votes and prints the result on paper. Each bulletin has a QR Code, which can be scanned and, through the app, have the information from that urn.
