Smartwatches have dominated the wearable device scene for a few years now, but that's set to change soon. A Samsung, as it closed its Unpacked event last week, made a brief announcement of Galaxy Ring, your next smart device.

Amber Reaver, Samsung spokesperson, shared that the goal of the ring will be to “offer more people the opportunity to manage their health with a comprehensive, streamlined approach to everyday wellness at home.”

The idea is to guarantee consistent and accurate tracking data over time, justifying the compact format of the ring. Reaver also mentioned that the ring will feature “cutting-edge sensor technologies” and will be comfortable enough for continuous wear, 24/7.

Those present at Unpacked 2024 had the opportunity to view a prototype of the ring. Analyst Avi Greengart reported that the device is lightweight, offers three different finishes, and will be available in varying sizes, possibly four different ones. The product is expected to hit the market later this year.

The price issue has not yet been clarified. O Oura Ring 3, which is the main model in this category, is currently on sale in the United States for US$299 (around R$1.473,23 in direct conversion) through the manufacturer's official website. The doubt persists as to the value that Samsung will attribute to its model.

A Apple invited several journalists again to test their latest smart glasses, VisionPro, or as the company identifies it: a space computer. Approximately 20 minutes long, the sessions consisted of a quick set-up for adjustment and eye tracking, followed by viewing videos including spatial content, viewing spatial and panoramic photos, a preview of the beta version of the Disney+ app, a meditation, a virtual reality environment with dinosaurs and a brief period of interaction with the Vision Pro's virtual keyboard.

The opinion regarding the virtual reality experience is unanimous and positive. Cherlynn Low, technology journalist, stated that among all the virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality glasses she has tested, “the Apple Vision Pro is by far the best and, without a doubt, the most well thought out”. Apparently, many people who tested the “space computer” also emphasized the weight of the device.

Marques Brownlee, youtuber Known for producing technology content, he also tested the device and left his impressions. In a tweet, Brownlee said that the first time he tried the Vision Pro, he thought it was “a little heavy”; the second time, he observed that “this thing is very heavy”; and by the third time, the weight of the device was pretty much the only thing he could think about.

Apple is currently developing a more affordable version of the Apple Vision Pro, scheduled for release in February 2, 2024 and a starting price of US$3.499, something around R$17.265 in direct conversion, there is speculation indicating that Apple intends to create a lower cost model, aiming to broaden the device's appeal.

“Transmormers Robot” on the Moon 3i1d1c

A robot developed by the creators of Transformers landed on the Moon aboard a lunar expedition led by JAXA — Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. Called Lunar Excursion Vehicle-2 (LEV-2), and nicknamed SORA-Q, this ultra-compact lunar robot was the result of collaboration between Japanese toy manufacturer Takara Tomy, JAXA, Sony Group and Doshisha University.

Designed as a compact payload, this technology was integrated into the spacecraft Smart Lander for Investigating Moon during the mission Moon Sniper from JAXA, which resulted in a landing on the lunar surface. Its primary purpose is to test movement capabilities and autonomous functionality in challenging gravitational conditions on the lunar surface.

Upon landing, the SORA-Q becomes a mobile model to then evaluate its orientation and position in relation to the spacecraft through the captured images. It then moves away, captures several images and transmits them to the Earth's surface, along with other movement data. The robot's internal battery provides a maximum of two hours of operating power.

The construction of the SORA-Q It was due to the company's expertise in miniaturization and weight reduction, given its experience in toy production — and, of course, combined with the design based on Transformers. Another expectation is that the lunar robot will stimulate children's interest in natural sciences.
