“After thoroughly analyzing Shazam data, we found that acquiring the company would not reduce competition on the streaming market of digital music,” said Margrethe Vestager, EU competition analyst.

A European Comission opened a large-scale investigation into the agreement disclosed in April, fearing that companies could buy a competitor with great influence in the market to extract information and, with that, take other companies from the sector.

“Data is key in digital economyl. We must therefore carefully review transactions that lead to acquisitions that contain data, including commercial information,” added Vestager.
Last month, Reuters reported through sources that the Apple would gain antitrust approval from the UE, after surveying the agreement in seven European countries, including , Italy, Spain and Sweden.
